Early life

Steven Furtick was born Larry Stevens Furtick. He was raised in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He grew up with both his parents, his mother, Faith Liles Furtick, and his father, Larry Stevens Furtick. His father, Larry Stevens, passed away in 2013 from ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

Steven is the middle child, with an older step-sister, Stephanie, and a younger brother, Matthew.

He grew up in an average household; his father, Larry Stevens, was a barbershop owner for most of his life.

Steven finished high school at Berkeley High School, and after graduating, he went to North Greenville University, where he got his B.A. in Communications.

He chose the career path of a pastor after reading the ‘Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire’. He then joined the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, which earned him the title of Master of Divinity.

In 2004, he was appointed a worship leader at the Christ Covenant Church in North Carolina. By 2006, Furtick moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, and founded the Elevation Church. The first service was on February 5th, 2006.

The next year, Steven formed the Elevation Worship music group, which earned them a Grammy for the ‘Old Church Basement’ album.
