Early life

Steven Furtick was born Larry Stevens Furtick. He was raised in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He grew up with both his parents, his mother, Faith Liles Furtick, and his father, Larry Stevens Furtick. His father, Larry Stevens, passed away in 2013 from ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

Steven is the middle child, with an older step-sister, Stephanie, and a younger brother, Matthew.

He grew up in an average household; his father, Larry Stevens, was a barbershop owner for most of his life.

Steven finished high school at Berkeley High School, and after graduating, he went to North Greenville University, where he got his B.A. in Communications.

He chose the career path of a pastor after reading the ‘Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire’. He then joined the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, which earned him the title of Master of Divinity.

In 2004, he was appointed a worship leader at the Christ Covenant Church in North Carolina. By 2006, Furtick moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, and founded the Elevation Church. The first service was on February 5th, 2006.

The next year, Steven formed the Elevation Worship music group, which earned them a Grammy for the ‘Old Church Basement’ album.

In 2007, the church and Furtick gave out $40,000 to their members in envelopes of $5, $20, and $1,000, advising them to spend the money kindly on others.

By 2011, Furtick had started speaking at major events, such as the Global Leadership Summit, the C3 Conference, Hillsong Conference, and Presence Conference in 2012 and 2013.

In addition, Steven Furtick appeared on Oprah’s SuperSoul100 list of visionaries and influential leaders in 2016.

In 2012, Furtick developed a mentorship program, where over 1,600 members applied, and mentored children in the 2012/2013 semesters.[1]

The Elevation Church kept constantly expanding, which is why multiple new church sites were founded, and the Elevation Church currently has over 15 locations across the US has been named one of the top 100 fast-growing churches.

Involvement in campaigns

Steven Furtick was named a New York Times best-selling author for his works: Crash the Chatterbox, Greater, and Sun Stand Still.

Additionally, he took part in many donation campaigns for families in need.

Some questions were raised in 2013 when Furtick declined to answer his salary, the tax-free allowance for his housing, or how much money he’s made from selling his books, many of which were bestsellers. The Elevation Church has stated that Furtick is fairly generous regarding church donations; however, exact numbers have never been disclosed.

Furtick donated $750,000 to the city of Charlotte and 100,000 hours of community service to the town.

In 2020, Steven Furtick started his show for ministries, ‘Believer’s Voice of Victory’.[2]

Steven Furtick is one of the richest pastors in the US, with an estimated net worth of over $60 million. Most of his wealth is accumulated due to his multiple bestsellers, church albums, and expanding the Elevation Church massively.
