Michelle Branch was born on July 2, 1983, in Sedona, Arizona. From a young age, she demonstrated a remarkable musical talent, singing at three years old, taking music lessons at eight, and composing her first song at fourteen.
After attending Sedona Red Rock High School, Branch was homeschooled during her final two years to concentrate more on her music career.
At fourteen, Branch began performing gigs in her hometown, which her supportive parents funded. They also assisted her with the release of her debut album, "Broken Bracelet." [1]
In 2001, Michelle Branch signed a deal to make music and released an album called "The Spirit Room," which was popular.[2]
The following year, she worked with Santana, and together they won a Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. [3]
Her second album, "Hotel Paper," emerged in 2003 and became the second most popular album on the Billboard 200 chart.
One song from the album, "Are You Happy Now?" earned Michelle a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. But even though the album got mixed reviews, it didn't do as well as the first song.
Michelle also acted in TV shows and movies like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, American Dreams, Charmed, and The Hot Chick.[4]
Michelle Branch started working with her backup singer and friend Jessica Harp to form a group called “The Wreckers” in 2005.
They made an album called Stand Still, Look Pretty in May 2006.
The album combined pop, rock, and country music. Their first single, "Leave the Pieces," was released earlier that year.
The duo also helped Santana with his album “All That I Am” and went on tour with Rascal Flatts. They were nominated for a CMA Award and a Grammy Award.
The Wreckers separated in 2007. After that, Michelle Branch sold her home in California and moved to Nashville, Tennessee.[5]
Michelle Branch wrote songs for Mandy Moore's album and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 soundtrack.[6]
In 2007, she told people she would make a new album by herself. In 2010, she released a smaller version of her album called an EP and worked with Timbaland.
The following year, she released two singles called "Loud Music" and "If You Happen to Call" and said her third album was finished.
She also joined a cooking show as a co-host in 2012 and said her new album would come out in the spring of 2013, but it has yet to do so.
In 2013, Michelle Branch started working on a new album after abandoning her previous work, West Coast Time.
She announced she was recording it in London with Martin Terefe and then later in Nashville.
In 2015, Branch signed with Verve Records and, in 2017, released her album “Hopeless Romantic.” [7]
She later parted ways with Verve Records. Branch and Patrick Carney performed a cover of "A Horse with No Name" for the TV show BoJack Horseman.
Michelle Branch re-recorded her album, “The Spirit Room”, in March 2021 and performed it during a virtual concert in September of the same year.
The re-recorded album was released on October 15, 2021. She also released a new single called "I'm a Man" in July 2022, which is part of her fourth studio album, “The Trouble” with Fever.
The album, featuring artwork by her father-in-law, James Carney, was released on September 16, 2022.
