Maria Menounos was born on June 8, 1978, in Medford, Massachusetts, United States, to Greek immigrant parents Costas and Litsa Menounos. Maria has one sibling, a younger brother named Peter.

She attended the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church and Medford High School in Medford.

Maria participated in many beauty pageants as a kid, winning Miss Massachusetts Teen USA in 1996. In 2000 she competed for the title of Miss Massachusetts USA and won second place.^[1]
