Maria Menounos was born on June 8, 1978, in Medford, Massachusetts, United States, to Greek immigrant parents Costas and Litsa Menounos. Maria has one sibling, a younger brother named Peter.

She attended the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church and Medford High School in Medford.

Maria participated in many beauty pageants as a kid, winning Miss Massachusetts Teen USA in 1996. In 2000 she competed for the title of Miss Massachusetts USA and won second place.[1]

Maria enrolled at Emerson college but didn't finish it. Instead, she received the job offer of her dreams and got hired by Channel One News in Los Angeles.[2]

During her time on Channel One News, Maria covered numerous significant events and topics. She interviewed President George W. Bush and NATO aircrew members and reported about big natural disasters in 2001.
