Earliest records that led to Larry being involved with the gang date back when he was just twelve years old, in his early teens. In the mid-1960s, Hoover became a member of one of Chicago's most notorious gangs, the Black Gangster Disciples (BGD).[1]

Under his leadership, the BGD became a powerful and influential gang controlling large portions of Chicago's drug trade. Hoover is famous for establishing the 'Folk Nation,'[2]a powerful alliance of gangs that helped the BGD maintain its grip on the city.

Hoover's criminal empire brought him massive wealth, estimated to be around $500 million at its peak. However, his fortune came at a high cost to the people of Chicago, as the gang wars between the BGD and its rivals led to a wave of violence that claimed many lives, including innocent bystanders.
