Larry Hoover's story is about power, crime, and redemption. He was born on November 30, 1950, in Jackson, Mississippi, USA; however, he spent his early life in Chicago when he moved there at age four. Larry’s life was full of struggle and hardship from an early age, and it all started when his parents divorced.

In Chicago, Hoover didn't finish high school and fell into the gang culture prevalent in the city during the 1960s. By the time he was a teenager, Hoover was involved in small-time criminal activities such as theft and burglary.

Earliest records that led to Larry being involved with the gang date back when he was just twelve years old, in his early teens. In the mid-1960s, Hoover became a member of one of Chicago's most notorious gangs, the Black Gangster Disciples (BGD).[1]

With his leadership skills and intelligence, Hoover quickly rose to the ranks of the BGD and became its supreme leader by the 1970s.

Under his leadership, the BGD became a powerful and influential gang controlling large portions of Chicago's drug trade. Hoover is famous for establishing the 'Folk Nation,'[2]a powerful alliance of gangs that helped the BGD maintain its grip on the city.

Hoover's criminal empire brought him massive wealth, estimated to be around $500 million at its peak. However, his fortune came at a high cost to the people of Chicago, as the gang wars between the BGD and its rivals led to a wave of violence that claimed many lives, including innocent bystanders.
