Halyna Hutchins was born in Horodets, Ukraine, on April 10, 1979, but she grew up in the Russian city of Murmansk in the Arctic. Her father, Anatoly, served in the Soviet Navy, and because of it, she has often been named an “army brat.”

There is no record of who her mother is. She has one sister, Svetlana Androsovyc.

Halyna went to the National Agricultural University and then attended Kyiv National University. At first, she took classes in economics and then changed her study to journalism and graduated with a degree in international journalism.

She also completed her studies in Master Fine Arts in 2015 from the AFI Conservatory and had her master's degree in cinematography.

Career

Hutchins’s career began way before she moved to America. First, she was an Investigative Journalist in Eastern Europe. Afterward, she moved to Los Angeles, California, and she proceeded to chase her passion in the film industry.

However, Halyna’s primary focus was making films, producing, and doing fashion photography. Her talents were well noticed by the famous cinematographer Bob Primes who encouraged her to apply for the American Film Institute Conservatory (AFI). She began studying there in 2013, and in two years, she graduated with a master's degree.

Unfortunately, her career did not last long; she was only 42 when it ended.

The year 2021 was the year of her last work when she was a director of photography on the set of the Western film “Rust,” filmed in New Mexico. It was the movie with actor Alec Baldwin who discharged a revolver while preparing for a scene, wounding her fatally.

As reported, she was immediately sent to the hospital but died in the air ambulance right after that.
