Erika Alexander is an American actress, producer, and writer. She is best known for her roles as Maxine Shaw on the FOX sitcom "Living Single" and Pam Tucker on the NBC sitcom "The Cosby Show."

Career

Alexander was born on November 19, 1965, in Winslow, Arizona. She grew up in Philadelphia and attended Temple University, where she studied film and journalism. After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting.

Alexander began her acting career in the late 1980s with a small role in the film "The Linguini Incident," followed by a role in “My Little Girl” and “The Long Walk Home” in 1990, playing opposite Whoopi Golberg.



She gained wider recognition for her role as Maxine Shaw on the FOX sitcom "Living Single," which aired from 1993 to 1998. In this role, Alexander received critical acclaim for her performance which helped to establish her as a talented actress.

She received two awards for the category Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. Erika appeared next to her former co-star Queen Latifah in the miniseries “Mama Flora’s Family.

Since "Living Single," Alexander appeared in several other television shows and films, including "The Cosby Show," - from 1990 until the series finale in 1992; "The Five Heartbeats," and "Dreamgirls." During this time frame, she worked on the ABC comedy-drama series - “Going to Extremes,” but the show got canceled after a single season.

In 2001, Erika Alexander appeared in the film “30 Years to Life,” a movie which earned her another award - Best Independent Actress from Black Reel Awards.

In 2006, she appeared in “Déjà Vu” with Denzel Washington, followed by “La Mission” in 2009, when she starred with Jeremy Ray Valdez and Benjamin Bratt.
