Biography

William Omar Landron Rivera is a Puerto Rican reggaeton singer and songwriter. He was born on February 10, 1978, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His parents are William Landron and Luz Antonia Rivera.

Since he was young, William has been interested in writing and producing music. Still, his ambitions were not yet discovered because he found another activity, being a member of the Protestant Church in Bayamon [1]called Iglesia Evangélica Restauración en Cristo.

He was so in too deep with being a member of the church that he became a priest. Four years later, he left the church and pursued his music career.

Career

Don Omar was discovered by Hector El Father [2] , another religious figure and a famous Latin singer, songwriter, producer, and member of the duo “Hector & Tito.”

William wrote and produced songs for the duo for a while until he finally got the courage to get on the scene himself.

His first appearance was on the duo’s third and last album, “A la Reconquista.” Don Omar was featured on multiple songs on the album alongside Daddy Yankee and Nicky Jam.

Further Career

  • Don Omar emancipated himself shortly after, starting his solo career with his first single, "Desde Que Llego,” in 2002.
  • The following year (2003), he made his first debut album called “The Last Don” and made unbelievable progress in the reggaeton music industry.
  • Don Omar didn’t waste much time starting touring and progressing his career, so in 2004 he had his first tour, selling over 2,500,000 units worldwide.
  • “Don Omar” instantly became a household name all over the world. He collaborated with famous artists like Daddy Yankee, Lucenzo, Jennifer Lopez, etc.
  • In 2006 he released his second album, “King Of Kings.” The album blew out and even landed an eighth place on the “Billboard 200 album chart.”
  • His most successful album was in 2010 when he released “Meet The Orphans” in collaboration with his music group label, the Orphanato. He reaches the top charts and the top of his career by releasing the album’s single “Danza Kuduro.”
  • In 2012, he released the second part of this album, "MTO2:New Generation.”
  • William portrayed Rico Santos in the “Fast And Furious” franchise.

Controversies

  • In 2019, Don Omar faced a lot of backlash for the homophobic comments he made, directed at “Ozuna,” who is also very accomplished and awarded Latin artist and his longtime rival. Omar indirectly said some untasteful, homophobic slurs.

Ozuna was a part of a “revenge porn” [3]activity featuring two other men, so the rumors came flying. Later on, it was discovered that the “Una Locura” singer was only 17 years old (which is a federal offense) when the tape was made, and he said that it was an “error from the past.”

  • Competing for the title of “Reggaeton King,” Don Omar made many friends and connections as well as some enemies like Daddy Yankee, a household name and one of the most famous reggaeton singers.

The beef between these two stars started when Don Omar went on Daddy Yankee’s tour as a special guest, and they turned off the microphone on him. At least, that’s what he claims happened. Don Omar abandoned the tour and didn’t look back after that.

Don Omar's Private Life

  • In 2008, William married journalist and weather presenter Jackie Guerrido. The couple divorced in 2013 after a long separation process and a legal battle.
  • Don Omar has a heck of a love life and relationships. He has three children from unknown past relationships: Diana Omar, Daniel Omar, and Dereck Omar.
  • The “Danza Kuduro” singer is rumored to have another child called Nicolas Valle Gomez, who is the eldest of all four children. Again, Don Omar hasn’t said a word to the public about this.

Conclusion

Don Omar, or William Omar Landron Rivera, is a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter with a net worth of $22.5 million. He is most known for his single Danza Kuduro, an all-time hit.
