In 1986 DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince released their first song titled “Girls Ain’t Nothing but Trouble”. The song was part of their debut album “Rock the House '' which brought them the attention of prominent record label “Jive Records” and the co-founder of “Def Jam Recordings” Russell Simmons. The album “Rock the House,” was rereleased on Jive in March 1987 and sold about 300,000 units.
In 1988, they released the “He's the DJ, I’m the Rapper” album that sold two million copies, making it multi-platinum.
The album featured the song "Parents Just Don't Understand," which earned them the first Grammy for a hip hop-rap song.
1990 Will Smith got a starring role in the sitcom “The fresh prince of Bel-Air,” where he was supposed to play a fictional character of himself, while Jazzy Jeff appeared as a recurring character named Jazz.
A year after, the duo reunited and dropped the album “Homebase”, which sold one million units. This album was a bit different from their previous releases, as it was aimed at fitting into hip-hop's era. The album featured “Summertime,” the song that won the duo their second Grammy award.
