Early life

Not much is known about D Smoke’s early life. He grew up with his mother and brothers in Inglewood, California, where he would later work as a teacher. His mother was Tina Turner’s backup singer, and one of his brothers, SiR, is signed to Dawg Entertainment, belonging to well-known rapper Kendrick Lamar. In addition, his mother was a piano instructor, so D Smoke got the chance to learn how to play both the piano and the drums.[1]

They were a family of gospel singers, so D Smoke grew up around musicians.

In 2006, D Smoke formed a songwriting group named WoodWorks, along with his brothers and his cousin. His cousin, Tiffany Gouché, wrote songs for popular singers, such as The Pussycat Dolls.

Later in 2006, D Smoke released his first album, "Producer of the Year.”

He graduated college from UCLA and proceeded to be a Spanish and music theory teacher at Inglewood High School.

In 2015, he appeared on SiR’s album “Seven Sundays,” on the song “You Ain’t Ready.”

In 2019, D Smoke was a contestant on the Netflix show “Rhythm + Flow”, where he was named the winner of the series. Later the same year, he released a seven-track project called “Inglewood High”. Many positive critics surfaced in the following period, stating that D Smoke was able to “utilize multiple flows, deliver introspective storytelling, and would rap very well in Spanish”.

In one of his performances, besides rapping in multiple different rhythms, D Smoke showed he plays the piano too.

In addition, D Smoke later performed at the 2019 Soul Train Music Awards with his brother, SiR. D Smoke later appeared on the song “Cross on Jesus Back” on The Game’s album.

In Bel-Air, the TV show based on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, D Smoke made an appearance as himself, in an episode named “PA to LA.”

In February 2020, D Smoke released “Black Habits” under Woodworks and Empire Record Label, followed by “War & Wonders” in September 2021 under the same record label.

He had made several appearances in the early ‘00s in TV shows like “CSI” and “Judging Amy.”

Not too long ago, D Smoke launched his own merch - “Supa Good,” including hoodies and hats. He also mentioned he is in the process of finishing a novel, so we can expect to see D Smoke as a renowned writer.[2]

Guest appearances

In addition to his own discography, D Smoke appeared as a guest on several artists’ albums: “You Ain’t Ready” in 2015 by SiR on the album “Seven Sundays”; “Painkillers” in 2017 by Davion Farris on the album “Trenier”; “City Boy” in 2017 by Sha’leah Nikole on the album “The Queen Issue”; “Cross on Jesus Back” in 2019 by The Game on the album “Born 2 Rap”; “Champ” in 2020 by Fireboy DML on the album “Apollo”; and “HEADSHOTS” in 2020 by Tobe Nwigwe on the album “CINCOriginals.”
