Biography

Alpo Martinez, more commonly known as Alpo or Po, was a former American drug dealer from Harlem, NY. He did most of his work during the ‘80s when he expanded his drug trade business in other major American cities.

At the time of his death in 2021, Alpo Martinez had an estimated net worth of $2 million.

Early life

Alpo Martinez, whose real name is Albert Geddis Martinez, was born on June 8th, 1966, in Harlem, New York. He was raised by his mother, and his father was never a part of his life.

He had an older brother, and their mom often struggled to raise them alone in the ‘70s as a single mom. She never finished college or any higher education, which made it difficult to make ends meet, so she worked jobs such as cleaning or clerk work.

The neighborhood they grew up in was rough, and the crime rates were through the roof at any given moment, making it nearly impossible for the two boys to stay out of trouble. Since they struggled financially for most of their lives, Alpo saw that the life of crime was bringing easy and fast money, which is how he ultimately got involved in that business.[1]

His mother wanted him to get as good of an education as she could afford, so she enrolled him in a Roman Catholic School. This didn’t last long, however, and he soon transferred to Automotive High School and then transferred again to Julia Richman High School. Unfortunately, he didn’t stick around long enough in any of the schools to graduate, so he dropped out soon after.

Getting involved in crime

At the age of 13, Alpo started selling hard drugs on the streets of East Harlem. He was soon arrested for possession but was quickly released because he was still a minor. Soon after getting released from prison, he was introduced to Azie Faison, a notorious drug dealer. As a result, Alpo started moving the drug chain, and after a couple of years, he moved to Washington, D.C., to expand the network.[2]

He then met Wayne ‘Silk’ Perry, who, at Alpo’s peak, would be his hitman and personal bodyguard.

Alpo’s drug ring got him into many closely-related crimes, such as extortion, murders, and torturing.

Murders and arrest

In January 1990, Alpo Martinez and accomplice Big Head Gary shot and killed Rich Porter, a former close associate of Martinez. Alpo believed Rich Porter was hiding drugs meant for Alpo, and overcharging him for the rest of the stash. Rich Porter was lured into a car, and shot multiple times in the head and body, killing him on the spot.

In July 1990, Martinez was indicted on federal drug charges, along with two other men. His indictment was dismissed since he was still a fugitive when the trial was starting. Alpo Martinez got arrested for selling drugs in November 1991 and was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, drug charges, and 14 counts of murder, including the murder of dealer Michael Anthony Salters, also known as Fray, and Demencio Benson.

Due to the gravity of the crimes he committed, he could have been faced with the death penalty or life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Alpo ‘snitched’ and testified against his own organization.

As a result, Perry received five consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, while Martinez was sentenced to only 35 years in federal prison.

Release from prison and death

In 2015, Alpo Martinez was released from prison under the witness protection program with a new identity. He was relocated to Lewiston, Maine, under the name Abraham G. Rodrigues.[3]

Alpo Martinez was fatally shot and killed in his hometown Harlem, New York, on the morning of October 31, 2021. Shakeem Parker has since been arrested and charged with his murder. Rumors came flying right after Alpo was shot, many claiming it was a consequence of him turning on his own people in court, but it was soon explained that the shooting occurred as a result of road rage.

Conclusion

Alpo Martinez was an American drug lord of Puerto Rican descent. After many years of being involved in gang activities, he started working as an informant for the FBI and gave out information on his own people.

At the time of his death, his net worth was estimated at $2 million.
