Alec was born in New York, USA, and loved art from a very young age. The rest information regarding his parents and whether he has any siblings remains a mystery. Also, there is no online record of his education.
This young man moved to Los Angeles in 2006 to pursue his dream. Now, if you’ve been to LA, there are zero chances you haven’t seen or noticed any of Alec’s artwork throughout the city.
Most would agree that artists are born, not raised to be ones. It was also the case with Alec, who unintentionally started drawing graffiti on the streets and later converted it into a career.
Inspired by the stockbroker Bernie Madoff, Alec started his career with a character that later became very popular, a graffiti of Monopoly Man with a tuxedoed and big top hat.
In the beginning, Alec always wore a bandana as a mask to stay anonymous because he knew that what he was doing could be misunderstood at some point. In addition, he wore a bandana not to breathe in the toxins and chemicals from the sprays and other materials he used for his art.
When he started, Alec’s main goal and idea was to transform cities into art galleries.

However, even though his idea was not very welcomed in the beginning, in an interview for Forbes[1] , he said;
“I can’t count on both hands how many times I’ve been in trouble,” and “ You just accept it when you start doing graffiti that it will happen at some point. It’s more about luck: at that time, a cop drives by you.
But, I’ve shifted my focus to doing walls where I have permission, where I can spend more time to define the piece rather than just doing stupid tags”.
What got him on the right track was that he was an artist producing work in urban areas like LA, Miami, New York, etc. Plus, he had a niche for portraying his art in a distinctive manager, using stencils, epoxides, newspapers, spray paint, and varnishes.

In 2014, Alec was one of the most viral street artists on the internet. He started getting offers for documentary shows and films like ‘Justin Bieber’s Believe.’ [2]
He participated in the Bravo TV reality show ‘Million Dollar Listings: Los Angeles.’
From that idea and millions of people supporting his art, Alec began a solo career by having a gallery show in New York in 2010. His exhibition was supported and sponsored by worldwide known companies like Samsung, and with it, he managed to raise money for the Barstool Fund, aiming to help small businesses.
One of his most expensive paintings is a 30x40 inc canvas with acrylic and spray paint which he named ‘Mr. Monopoly,’ sold for $51,250 in 2020.
In addition, there were also other paintings earning him over $200,000, such as ‘Gold Bull,’ Wall Street Crucifix,' etc.
Alec’s art brought him closer to notable names and companies, so he also had some brand collaborations with companies like TAG Heuer, Jacob & Co[3] , Forever 21, etc.
Alec Monopoly is most famous for his graffiti work on the streets of New York, primarily because what he drew was somewhat illegal but still audacious to make it. He made a fortune by portraying famous pop-culture icons, and his artwork was almost always sold out, sometimes for $50,000 a piece or even $100,000.
His clientele include Snoop Dogg, Prince Albert II of Monaco, Robert De Niro, Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Iggy Azalea, etc.
