Early life

Adam Noah Levine was born in 1979 in Los Angeles, to his mother, Patsy Noah Levine, and his father, Fred Levine. His parents divorced when he was seven, which he took hard. He even had to go to therapy for hysteria and was a rebellious kid.

Levine has four siblings, his brother Michael, his step-sister, Julia Milne Levine, and his two half-siblings, Sam and Liza Levine.

Adam was heavily influenced by his mother’s musical idols, The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, and Fleetwood Mac, which also inspired his musical style. He went to Brentwood School, where he met Mickey Madden, Jesse Carmichael, and Ryan Dusick - the other band members of Maroon 5.

Levine started his musical career in February 1994, together with Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden, and Ryan Dusick, when they formed their garage band Kara’s Flowers, where Adam was the lead vocal and guitarist. They first played at Whisky Go Go [1]in 1995.

Tommy Allen discovered Kara’s Flowers while they were playing at a party in Malibu [2] . They later signed a contract with Reprise Records and released “The Fourth World”, their first album, in 1997, which was unsuccessful. The same year, they appeared on a “Beverly Hills 90210” episode.

Kara’s Flowers split in 1999, and Adam and Jesse Carmichael went to New York to attend Five Towns College.

Maroon 5

Levine and Carmichael dropped out after one semester to reunite the band, which is when Maroon 5 was born.

Both of them attended college on the East Coast and brought with them the urban music influence of the newly-formed band, which transitioned into groove-based music. They added a fifth band member - James Valentine, and swapped one member, giving the final composition of Maroon 5.

During the same time, Adam Levine was working on the CBS television show ‘Judging Amy’ as as a writer’s assistant and wrote poems dedicated to his ex-girlfriend Jane. These poems turned into Maroon 5’s first album, “Songs About Jane” released in 2002.

The album became an instant hit, featuring some of Maroon 5’s greatest hits, such as “She Will Be Loved”, “This Love”, and “Sunday Morning”. Eventually, “Songs About Jane” ended up as the seventh-best-selling album of 2004 [3]and reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Since then, Maroon 5 has released studio 7 albums [4] , 3 live albums, 34 singles and 38 music videos. They have had 9 headlining tours and several other co-headlining tours.
